Win for faith at the Royal Darwin Show
The small wins are as important as the big wins, and HRLA was able to help secure freedom of expression for a Christian group last week at the Royal Darwin Show.
The Australian Christian Lobby applied to host a stall at the show and were initially denied due to concerns about the ACL broaching controversial topics and possible objections from members of the public.
HRLA stepped in to assist the ACL, defending their freedom of religion and the right to express that religion in public. After further consideration the Royal Darwin Show organisers agreed to permit the stall.
The result was a weekend full of positive interactions and conversations between ACL staff and members of the public.
The stall included information on the development of life in the womb along with literature on Christian faith and political issues.
The stall even attracted special visitors like Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price.
Rather than inciting controversy and confrontation, the stall was an example of the positive dialogue and community engagement that can only flourish when free speech is unhindered.
In this case HRLA was able to negotiate an agreement between all parties resulting in a happy outcome for ACL and show patrons.
