Remembering Charlie Kirk

The killing of Charlie Kirk has sent shockwaves across the world.

Charlie was a courageous leader whose life and work reached far beyond the United States. His voice and vision inspired many here in Australia who are seeking to live faithfully and speak truth in difficult times.

Charlie was never afraid to speak openly about his Christian faith and his political beliefs. Yet what made him distinctive was not only his courage but also his graciousness. He genuinely wanted to hear what his opponents had to say, and he engaged their arguments directly. In a culture marked by hostility and division, Charlie showed that it is possible to stand firm with both conviction and grace.

His example reminds us that conviction carries a cost.

Some people who live by their faith are mocked or ridiculed. Others, like HRLA clients Matthew Squires and Dr Jereth Kok, have lost their livelihoods for comments made in line with their Christian beliefs. And some, like Charlie, pay the ultimate price.

Charlie’s life and tragic death highlight the increasingly contentious nature of public discourse.

Charlie Kirk’s voice will be deeply missed, but his message will only go on. The best way to honour him is to continue the work of living faithfully and standing firm in the truth, even when it comes at a cost. His life reminds us that freedom is not preserved by staying silent but by speaking truth with love and courage.

At HRLA, we are committed to carrying that torch – defending Australians whose freedom to speak and live by their faith is under threat, and striving to ensure that the hope of the Gospel can be freely shared for generations to come.
