Major win as Queensland government rejects children’s gender services expansion
The new Liberal-National Party government in Queensland has rejected calls to expand children’s gender services in the state, signalling a step forward for parental rights and a return to common sense.
“We do not support the expansion of gender services for children,” Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie told reporters this month.
He also said that his government had directed the state health department to “halt any further implementation” of recommendations stemming from the 2023 audit of the clinic initiated under Labor.
“Our focus remains on safeguarding children and ensuring they have access to appropriate and balanced care,” he said.
While other jurisdictions around the world were restricting the use of children's gender services around the world, “the former Labor government was expanding the services,” he continued.
This statement by the LNP government comes just days after HRLA client Dr Jillian Spencer posted online about the government’s apparent plans to continue the implementation of the audit’s recommendations.
In her post on X (formerly Twitter) Spencer said that “the new LNP government is going to implement the recommendations of the sham, activist-stacked review of the children’s gender clinic - gender affirming services will be ramped up and expanded across the state”.
Thankfully, the LNP seems to have changed their minds.
“We remain very concerned about the use of those puberty blockers, particularly in light of evidence that’s coming in from around the world,” MP Tim Nicholls told reporters.
Both Nicholls and Bleijie in their statements referred to outcomes and reports coming out around the world, likely in reference to the damning Cass Review out of the UK and actions in US courts, which signify a major shift in how authorities are approaching children's gender services.
It’s clear that these moves by the current LNP government vindicate Dr Spencer and anybody else who bravely spoke out against Labor’s children gender regime, emphasising the importance of speaking truth on important matters, regardless of the consequences or prevailing political opinion.
