HRLA’s investment in future Christian leaders
The future of religious freedom in Australia became a bit brighter last week as law students and recent graduates gathered for HRLA's annual Legal Academy just outside Canberra.
The Legal Academy is a residential week-long intensive course that aims to equip young people with foundational principles and practical skills needed to form them for Christian service, and to embrace the great challenges that lie ahead in their studies and careers.
Delegates received high quality training from a Biblical perspective in worldview, culture, law and politics. They received lectures in such varied topics as gender critical theory and vilification and anti-discrimination laws, as well as political advocacy and professional leadership.
Faculty included leading experts in law, theology, history, and political advocacy.
The Legal Academy is one of HRLA’s most important ministries, representing a fundamental investment in the future of our country.
We live in testing times.
In Australia we see rising hostility to Christianity in the public square.
In our universities, strong cultural assumptions, incompatible with Christian belief, direct the way that students are taught and shaped for their future careers.
There is an increasing need for lawyers with a strong faith and Biblical understanding of culture.
Both delegates and faculty finished the week filled with a sense of hope and enthusiasm for the future. Participants built friendships and developed networks, and heard from respected professionals with a wealth of experience to share.
The delegates themselves found the week a very enriching experience.
One delegate gave the following feedback:
“The HRLA 2024 Academy was truly one of the most memorable and transformative weeks of my life. Being able to listen and learn from esteemed professionals with a Christian worldview was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Having open and honest conversations with all of the delegates gave me so much hope for the future and reminded me that there are people out there who are truly on fire for His Kingdom. I left the Academy with so much clarity and vision for what God has called me to do, and I could not recommend it enough!”
